{our week in pictures}

When the week begins with one of your children throwing up, there's no telling how the rest of the week is going to turn out. Fortunately, Emma was only sick Monday and spent Tuesday resting and recuperating. (and thankfully, the rest of us didn't catch that nasty stomach virus!)

We had a pretty eventful week with Faith Formation classes, our FPU class, open house at school, and date night. Not to mention helping with homework, projects, and catching Emma up on missed work.

Sunday night we grilled out and my brother in-law came over for dinner, along with some of our very good friends who were in town for a soccer tournament. It was a little chilly and a perfect night to sit by the fire pit.

Emma and Bailey had fun playing together.

Then, late Sunday night/early Monday morning my girl got s.i.c.k!!

She was feeling better by Tuesday afternoon.

Max was chosen as student of the week and got to write about something special to him.
He chose his stuffed doggy. It says: Hello! My name is Max. I love doge. I sleep with him every night, but he is a stuf aumal." He drew himself sleeping, those are Zzzzz's going up the page.  He was so excited to read this to his friends and share doggy. So proud of my smart little guy. He is writing so well and reading books on a level F which is middle of first grade level! Wow!!

Emma worked on her President's Day project and had to do a poster and report on the 17th president  Andrew Johnson. She did it herself with a little help from Daddy while I was at Open House on Thursday night.

One of my first graders wrote this in her work on writing notebook on Friday. It made my day! My class was on their best behavior this week. That made my whole week!

Emma and her friend Rylee were being so silly after school on Friday!

I came home and was ready for a date night out with my handsome hubby!

My sister kept the kids overnight, so here we are when we dropped them off.

We went to dinner at Bonefish Grill. (It was a Friday during Lent!!) We had a few drinks and a delicious dinner. We were going to see a movie but we got a late start and I didn't think I could stay awake for a 9:40 movie. I know...party animals!

Yesterday, I took advantage of the kids being with their cousins and while Damian was at work in the morning,  I cleaned my house; dusted, swept, mopped, vacuumed, did 3 loads of laundry, changed sheets, cleaned bathrooms-including tubs and showers, and tidied up bedrooms. I got so much accomplished in an hour. It felt great! I picked up the kids and we ran a couple of errands. We came home, made lunch, relaxed at home, the kids played outside for a couple of hours, then played some games, and grilled chicken and steak kabobs. Emma was a big help prepping dinner.

Max beat me at Scrabble Alphabet Scoop but I redeemed myself during the card game Spoons.

I have been wanting to put a cross wall somewhere in my living room, but didn't really know where to begin. While I was out shopping, I saw this wall hanging for 70% off. I love it!

After I hung this up, I rearranged a few things and added my green burlap wreath to my old barn window. I made this wreath and a yarn wreath with some fabric flowers for my shelf above our tv on Tuesday while Emma was sleeping. I think they turned out pretty well. I also attempted to make a St. Patrick's Day craft. I wrote the word Lucky with white paint on green burlap and made a few shamrocks and framed them in a black frame. I'm still deciding if I like it. I think if I painted my frame white or maybe yellow, I would like it better.

We are getting ready to head to Mass. Kind of a late start, I prefer 8 a.m. mass with the rest of my family, or even 10 a.m. but Damian had to work and just got home. So noon mass it is! We don't have too much planned, a couple of little projects around the house, and hitting the outlet and sports stores looking for cleats fot our little soccer players. We ordered uniforms this past week and they can hardly wait to start practice. Here's to a another great week!

my little cowboy

Today the kindergarten classes celebrated Rodeo Day. I was able to watch the festivities during my lunch and planning time. The kids had a blast and looked adorable in their cowboy gear.

In our town we are off for Rodeo Day on Friday, not President's Day on Monday. We celebrate the heritage of our county with the Silver Spurs Rodeo. I would love to take the kids to the fair and rodeo this weekend, but we will be out of town. One of these days we need to go.

Max has been excited for a couple of weeks now and could hardly wait to wake up this morning. The teachers worked hard and set up stations like barrel racing with stick horses, calf roping with lassos(jump ropes) and chairs, panning for gold, and other fun games. They also were able to feed a miniature pony and sit on a saddle.

Sweet Valentines

The kids and I worked on their valentines this weekend.
I love how they turned out!
We ended up making two different ones for each kid.
I couldn't resist and they were so quick and easy!

I love Valentine's Day as a mom(and a wife...and a teacher). I love showing my family(and friends) I love them every day, but there's something extra fun about a whole day dedicated to love and friendship. The hearts, the chocolate, the flowers, and the chocolate. Did I mention the chocolate?

My first graders are pretty excited, too. They've decorated their boxes, my classroom has been decorated since February 1st, and they can hardly wait to celebrate on Thursday.

Since Emma began preK3 we have been making her cards. I love homemade...she's usually the only one without the store bought cards in her class. They also always write their names and their friend's names on the cards.(if the teacher gives them to us) I'm kind of a stickler about this!! I like to keep one for our scrapbook, too. This is definitely one of my favorite things about this time of year. In the past I've used stamps, scrapbook paper, lace doilies, and fun valentine ribbons. The past couple of years I have found some adorable ideas thanks to blogs and Pinterest. Emma also made a box for her valentines. We put some red and white fabric and a sparkly E on top. Simple, yet so cute.

We made heart crayons for Emma's class and Max's friends are getting bubbles. I also took their pics and attached lollipops. I think they turned out pretty well for homemade. Most importantly, the kids helped and had a blast. They are so excited to hand them out to their friends.

I like to call this card making central.

Here are some close-ups.

Max took his name writing very seriously.

our week

This week has been pretty full with school, work, and our normal routines with a few extra things thrown in the mix. This will be a completely random post.

I'm so happy it's finally Friday and we can sit down and relax for our family movie and pizza night. This mom sure didn't feel like cooking!! I love teaching first graders but it has been nonstop and extra exhausting this week.

It seems our busy birthday season is starting. We have two parties this weekend and two next weekend.

I can hardly believe Valentine's Day is Thursday. I just love helping the kids make special cards for their friends. I found some cute ideas for this year. I plan on working on them this weekend between the partying.

We're also off school next Friday for Rodeo Day and I'm looking forward to spending the day visiting my friend Jenn and her new baby girl!

Here is a small glimpse of our week from my phone.

Max always is asking me to take his picture and put it on the internets. He told me he was super handsome for church.

I was checking Emma's grammar homework and love her handwriting(and the fact she can work independently and I just have to check it!!)

Yesterday my twin niece and nephew turned eight!! They are the twins of my twin brother...did you catch all of that?

In the car yesterday Emma and Max were making up a secret sister/brother handshake...love their relationship!!

Monday was the 100th day of school!

The Girls

Yesterday we went to my parent's house to visit with my aunt and uncle who are here visiting from Indiana. We had good conversation, a delicious lunch, and entertainment from the kids. There is never a dull (or quiet) moment when all the cousins get together. I didn't get out my camera but did manage to get a few pics of the girls. The boys were too busy playing Legos upstairs and football outside.

A Day with the Animals

We are so blessed to be able to visit the Disney parks whenever we want. Last weekend, we visited Animal Kingdom and had a fabulous day!
